Bachelor of Science in Education, University of Nebraska–Lincoln; Master of Science in education, Peru State College

Minda Schumacher started her teaching career in 2002 and joined Inspire Connections Academy in 2024, where she teaches English to tenth graders, speech and debate, and reading and writing for purpose. Says Ms. Schumacher, “Secondary students are more apt to understand my sense of humor.”

Why She Became a Teacher

According to Ms. Schumacher, “English was my favorite subject. I enjoy the daily human interaction with students. … The most rewarding part of my work at Inspire Connections Academy is meeting each student at the individual level they need.

“It’s much easier to adapt to each student’s needs when they are the sole focus of my attention. I crave the face-to-face interactions that on-camera LiveLesson® sessions provide but also enjoy individual conversations throughout the day.

“One of my favorite classroom activities is sharing about our lives outside of class. It’s important for me that my students know I understand we’re more than just teacher and students — we have entire lives outside of school.”

“I aspire to make some sort of connection (big or small) with all my students. … My overall goal is to teach students to be lifelong learners.”

The Online School Experience at Inspire Connections Academy

“One of the best things this school does to prepare students for a productive future is teach and encourage accountability, self-advocacy and time management. Students are provided with a plethora of information. It’s up to them to read the material and make use of it.

“When questions or issues arise, students are encouraged to reach out to our staff for help. Teachers can’t help if they don’t know there’s a problem. The Planner for each student is a life skills-related tool that translates over to so many other facets of their daily life. Many of our students are active outside of school, so having their educational day planned out helps them achieve and be successful.

“Parents considering this school should keep in mind that it’s a team effort. Our staff will work tirelessly to help your student succeed, but your roles as Learning Coach and student are just as important. I would argue that more individualized attention is devoted to our students and families throughout the year than in traditional schools.”

Personal Interests and Hobbies

“I watch a lot of hockey since my husband coaches and both of my sons play travel hockey,” reports Ms. Schumacher. “I love to walk and run with my golden retrievers, Bodhi & Gemma. I love a hot London Fog beverage from Starbucks.”
